Forests aren’t just found in the woods: sometimes they make their way into schools, taking the form of colors, natural materials, and creativity, and becoming a hands-on experience for young children.
As part of the activities organized by the Cairo Montenotte Environmental Education Center, in collaboration with the Municipality of Carcare, the Carcare Comprehensive School and Anfor Liguria, the program focused on environmental protection and biodiversity continued with a creative workshop led by Barbara Alessandri of CIMA Research Foundation and aimed at elementary school students.
After planting several tree species in the school garden—an initiative carried out on International Forest Day as part of the City of Carcare’s urban green space inventory project—the children took part in an activity that combined environmental education, art, and sensory exploration.
The students listened to a song about trees and then created a special palette of natural colors using ingredients such as turmeric, coffee, chlorophyll, red beets, red cabbage, and paprika.
Through bio-painting and creative recycling, they then gave shape to their “Trees of Imagination,” viewing the environment not merely as something to study, but as something of which they feel a part.
An engaging and meaningful workshop that effectively conveyed, with simplicity and enthusiasm, the fundamental importance of plants for life on Earth and the role of forests in climate protection and the reduction of environmental risks.
Because when creativity meets science, awareness takes shape.
